Throughout His written Word, God tells us that His sheep will hear His voice and have the ability to distinguish it from other voices. He further tells us that He calls us by name, meaning that His word to us is uniquely personal. As modern-day Christians, however, most of us don’t hear from God on a regular basis, finding it difficult to distinguish His voice from the other voices which surround us. Many of us feel that we must not be a good enough Christian since we don’t hear from God, and others of us hold deep skepticism toward the idea that hearing from God is even possible. Is hearing from God biblical? Can all Christians truly hear from Him? If this is what scripture says, why do so many of us modern-day Christians fail to hear from Him?
Within this study, we will study scripture to learn more about how and why God speaks to us, the ways in which He speaks to us, and how to listen for His voice and distinguish it from all others. Hearing God’ s voice is not only possible–it is a key piece of discerning His will, walking with Him, and growing in deeper relationship with Him.
